Brighton's concrete driveway specialists

A new concrete driveway is one of the highest-impact, best-value improvements you can make to a Brighton home. It's the first thing visitors and passers-by see, it takes a daily beating from vehicles and weather, and done well it lasts a generation. For over 15 years Brighton Concrete has been pouring driveways across Bayside — from compact Brighton East courts to wide frontages off Nepean Highway — and we bring the same standard to every job: a properly prepared sub-base, the right reinforcement, a consistent finish and crisp, clean detailing.

What sets a Brighton Concrete driveway apart is what happens before the pour. We excavate to a sound depth, compact a road-base sub-base in layers, set out control joints where the slab naturally wants to crack, and place reinforcement suited to the span and the vehicles using it. On Brighton's deep sands that sub-base prep is usually straightforward, but it still has to be done properly — skip it and a driveway will settle, crack and spall within a few years, no matter how good the surface looks on day one.

The result is a driveway engineered for its site: strong enough for everyday use, finished to complement your home, and detailed with neat edges, saw cuts and a sealer that protects against the coastal climate. Whether you want a clean plain finish, a warm coloured concrete, or a premium exposed aggregate, the build underneath is the same — built to last.

Our Driveway Process

How we build a Brighton driveway that lasts

Every driveway follows the same disciplined sequence so the result is predictable, on time and on budget. There are no shortcuts on the steps that matter — sub-base, reinforcement, joints and cure.

1
Site measure & quote
We measure the area, assess access and ground conditions, discuss finish and colour, and send a fixed-price written quote — usually within one business day.
2
Excavation & sub-base
We excavate to depth, compact a road-base sub-base in layers, and set the falls so water sheds away from the home and off the surface.
3
Forming & reinforcement
Forms are set to line and level, then SL72/SL82 mesh (or rebar for wider spans) is placed on bar chairs at the correct cover.
4
Pour, finish & cut
Concrete is placed, screeded, floated and finished to your chosen texture, then control joints are saw-cut at the right spacing to control cracking.
5
Cure & seal
The slab is cured and sealed, with guidance on when to walk and drive on it. We then arrange any crossover inspection with Bayside City Council.

Driveway Finishes

Choosing the right concrete finish for your Brighton home

The finish is what you'll live with every day, so it's worth getting right. Brighton's housing stock ranges from period Edwardian and Californian bungalows to sharp modernist and French Provincial render homes, and each style suits a different surface.

Plain / broom finish

The most economical option. A lightly textured broom finish gives good grip and a clean, understated look that suits period homes and rear or side driveways where finish is less of a feature.

Coloured concrete

Integral colour through the concrete, in tones from warm sand and terracotta to charcoal. Suits modernist and render homes and lets a driveway tie into the home's palette.

Exposed aggregate

The premium choice and Brighton's most popular upgrade. The surface paste is washed away to reveal the stone, giving a textured, non-slip, high-end finish that lasts exceptionally well.

Coloured & stamped

Patterned and coloured to resemble stone, slate or brick. A decorative option for homeowners who want the look of paving with the durability of a single concrete slab.

Not sure which finish suits your home and budget? We bring sample panels to your free onsite measure so you can see and feel the difference before deciding. We'll also talk through sealing and maintenance so you know exactly what's involved in keeping the finish looking its best.

Built for Brighton Conditions

Why our driveways stand up to Bayside's climate

Brighton's coastal position means driveways face salt-laden air, strong sun and the occasional downpour. We build for all of it.

  • 100mm+ slab thickness on compacted road-base sub-base
  • SL72–SL82 steel mesh reinforcement as standard
  • Control joints saw-cut to control where the slab cracks
  • Salt-resistant acrylic or penetrating sealers
  • Falls engineered to shed water away from the home
  • Bayside City Council crossover-compliant construction
FAQ

Concrete driveway FAQs — Brighton

A concrete driveway is quoted per job because the price depends on the finish, the size, the site access and the ground conditions, as well as whether a crossover permit is needed. Rather than publish a ballpark, we come to your Brighton property, measure the area and send a fixed-price written quote within one business day.

You can walk on the concrete after 24–48 hours and drive on it after about seven days. Concrete reaches its full design strength at 28 days. We'll advise on curing and sealing so your driveway achieves maximum durability.

If you're replacing a driveway within your property boundary with the same footprint, generally no. However, any work on the nature strip, kerb or vehicle crossover requires a permit from Bayside City Council. We handle the crossover permit application and inspection as part of the job.

We pour residential driveways at 100mm minimum thickness on a compacted road-base sub-base, with SL72 or SL82 steel mesh reinforcement depending on the span and vehicle load. Heavier vehicles or wider spans may require 125mm and heavier reinforcement.

Plain concrete is the most economical and suits a clean, understated look. Exposed aggregate costs more but offers superior slip resistance, a premium appearance and better longevity in coastal conditions. For Brighton homes, exposed aggregate is the most popular upgrade and adds the most street appeal.

Yes. We apply a high-quality acrylic or penetrating sealer after the concrete has cured. For exposed aggregate and coloured concrete we recommend resealing every 2–3 years to protect against the Bayside climate and keep the finish looking new.
